In the third interview this week, I spoke to Giles and enjoyed his enthusiasm about the race that really sucked him in – in his mid 30s – until he eventually took the title in 2023. His repeat victory in 2024 underlined not only his strength and skills, but also how the race can be defined by good or bad fotune. A really enjoyable chat for me – especially heading into the 2025 edition of the race which is set for a male battle of the titans, with so many people warranting ‘favourite’ status.
