” I had run up the descent [of Whernside] a few months before, intending to scout the best lines down. Time well spent. I think I rode all bar two short sections. I made up places using one alternative line and then went right, down a tussocky patch avoiding a the rock strewn path. I could see I was making places and going faster. Unfortunately as I congratulated myself, the front wheel dug in and I performed a spectacular endo. Fortunately it was onto soft ground, so no damage done. Back on the bike and down to the bottom.”
