Dean Barnett’s write-up on Facebook

Easy to assume all readers on on Facebook, which of course they’re not.  So sincere congratulations to any of you who aren’t.   Dean’s write-up (below) is a lovely, fitting tale of love with this event. Best time in 19 years and some serious pound-shedding.  Congrats Dean.

The 3 Peaks Cyclo-cross is an inspiring event to contest, it is the only race I can now get fired up for.

From watching dad as a youngster finish 3rd, Michael Sulley – the Vets trophy is in his memory – providing transport when my dad’s car broke, finishing 2nd in 95 today and yesterday completing my 17th finish.
After weighing in at 17 stone 12lbs in May to get down to 13 stone 7lbs for the event.

The hard work paid off as I recorded my best time in over 19 years.
I’m chuffed with 3 hrs 48 minutes, I may not climb as well as I did in the 90’s, but I do love the descents!!

Many thanks to Hans van Nierop for the challenge and the excellent Vanelli shorts, Holly Barnett and Heather Barnett for their support today.

Great to be in a team of Welland Valley riders who have caught the same 3 Peaks bug!
Well done on finishing – Hans van Nierop , Nik Kershaw , Adrian Killworth , Steve Coulam and our good friend Chloe Parr . Big thanks to those members who volunteered to secure a ride next year – Steven Welch & Marc Henderson. #Muddymarvels

Congratulations to everyone who finished this years epic challenge. Thank you to the army of people who helped deliver the event.
