Simon Scarsbrook’s third blog on the Cycling Weekly blog concerns, amongst other things, probably the ultimate and most discussed ritual equipment obsession on the 3 peaks: tyre choice.
Rubber fetishists love to discuss tyre in ‘cross – myself included – to incredibly obsessive degrees and forsaking any non cyclist in the room. But the 3 Peaks has a tyre obsession that could fill a blog of its own. Nice in a niche in a niche stuff.
As Simon summarises here on his blog
“Any tyre is a compromise. The parcour of each peak is so different, and then there is the tarmac in between. Ideally something with grip, with a good central ‘ridge’ to aid rolling resistance on the road, strong sidewalls, but not too heavy.”
